UPCOMING EVENTS - for details, updates, photos and videos see

BOATS IN THE BAY 2017           SATURDAY  2  SEPTEMBER.     Weather permitting there'll be a pan-Celtic presence at Boats in the Bay as it celebrates its 12th year: there's a possibility that Barnabas will be joined by the Manx lugger Gladys and Benoit and his Breton crew aboard the Loch Fyne skiff The Rose of Argyll (now registered in Douarnenez).

As usual a small flotilla of jumbos, picarooners and crabbers will sail to meet them off the Head around mid-afternoon on Fri 1st Sept. After the fish BBQ reception for the participating crews at the Fishermens Lodges, we'll adjourn to the Pilchard Press - the micro pub that hides from the tourists behind a barricade of wheelie-bins!

On Saturday participating boats will be sailing from 1.30 pm. People wishing to join and sail aboard a 'jumbo' should make themselves known to the St.Ives Jumbo Association stall on the plat outside the shore shelter.

The scully race will start around 3.30pm beside the Old Slipway. This is open to any competent scullier. Please call me (07866 777219) if you wish to take part.

Prizegiving will be followed by the combined voices of Cadgwith Singers, Bamaluz Bootleggers and yourselves on the plat and afterwards up at the Harbour Pool Club until around 9pm when the Ceilidh band Jonahs Lift take to the stage as the event finale.

PAST EVENTS
On Sat 8th April, a springtime festival atmosphere descended on St.Ives as The Ambling Band - a colourful, 12-piece 'fanfare' from Bristol performed their infectious sounds. Later, in the St.Ives Guildhall they performed another stonking gig, donating their services to our cause.

Many thanks to everyone who came to support this event including Philps Pasties who stepped in at the last minute.

BOATS IN THE BAY 2014

Another successful event this week end including the launch of the new St.Ives Sailing Punt and Scully Race captured in it's entirety by Alban Roinard for St.Ives TV.

SCULLY RACING AT 'SEA, SALTS AND SAIL'. 11th-13th July

  Photo:Keith Jones

This style of relay-racing from the beach was introduced in St.Ives last summer by the Jumbo Association as an exciting spectator sport to encourage this ancient art. At the same time, the races create a contemporary use for the replica St.Ives punts (formerly used for landing fish) which were built by Jonny Nance of the St.Ives Jumbo Association.
In collaboration with Andy Wheeler and Leon Pezzack, Jonny Nance brought the event to Mousehole which proved to be a fitting climax to the day's events on the water in a perfect setting.
In recognition of this, Leon Pezzack decided to award the Deborah Pendle Memorial Trophy to the winning team (represented by Chris Rees). The trophy had been donated by Alan Abbot (who set up the Beer Lugger Association  - a model for our own) in memory of Leon's daughter.

So, Scully Racing has become an official part of this popular festival!

The next confirmed scully-race will be held at St.Ives at approx 4pm on Sat 6th September as part of 'BOATS IN THE BAY 2014' our annual event - now in it's 9th year!

Sunday 4th August. 'PUNT GIGS & JUMBOS' - Another Scully Day, but this time in collaboration with St.Ives Gig Club....

During the course of the afternoon at least 75 people got out on the water, many for the first time, to try their hand at rowing a gig or scullying a punt.

14th - 16th June. LOOE LUGGER REGATTA. We had hoped to take a jumbo but high winds confined everyone to port. . . .

In a defiant gesture to raise some cheer amongst the lugger fleet, jumbo members and Stephane Spitz of Swervy World do the rounds on a wet Sunday morning.

4th May. Our season begins as the first jumbo is returned to her moorings in St.Ives harbour.

6th May.  Bank Holiday May Day event.  St.Ives Harbour.  A chance to have your questions answered, join up and meet other local members manning our stall on the slipway.   Lots of new hand-made items for sale.

Saturday 9th March.                                                                            PUNT LAUNCH DAY +  SCULLY DAY  +  PUNT LAUNCH PARTY!

NEWLYN FISH FESTIVAL 2010.

BOATS IN THE BAY 2010  Saturday 11th September.

AN EVENING WITH PETE GOSS                                                   Friday 9th April. The Guildhall, St.Ives.

This was the first public event held in W.Cornwall since returning from his epic trip to Australia with 'The Spirit of Mystery' and the nearest to Newlyn -  the home of the crew of the original 'Mystery'. £3000 was raised.

CHRISTMAS AUCTION  AT THE CASTLE                Sat 12th Dec.

Despite the recession and pre-budget gloom we succeeded in raising another £2000. The Hayle Charity Singers provided excellent male-voice harmony during a break in the proceedings. Once again we're endebted to Skinners Brewery who provided a raffle prize and a barrel of beer for the evening.
